Due to the massive thunderstorm that has occurred, in Karachi, for a few hours before the match had to start. The first match of One-Day international among Sri-Lanka & Pakistan has been withdrawn, as the whole ground was wet and full of puddles, It was known that drying off water from the ground and making the pitch better would be impossible for the staff. Thus Umpires (at 4:30) announced to desist and postpone the match, even though, according to rules, the time to announce the match delay was 8.30 pm.
It is announced by PCB that the match will be held on upcoming days from Sunday, September 29 to Monday, September 30. According to PCB, both the boards have made this decision mutually so the staff at the ground has time to clean off the field and prepare National Stadium for the match as it required at least 2days for groundsman to make the field suitable for match. The National Stadium, Karachi, has held 47 matches since 1980 and this has happened to be the first match to be called off due to rain.
However, it’s been 10 years since an ODI- One-Day International match has been held in Karachi and the people have waited for a long time. It is the first visit of the Sri Lanka cricket team in Pakistan after 10years; it was in 2009 when the team visited National Stadium, Karachi for One-Day International. And since then, there has not been any ODI match held there until this year. The Selected team of Pakistan for ODI this year has got only 4 players that have played for an ODI before in Pakistan. One of them is Misbah Ul Haq, He states

This first One-day International match could be a significant step towards the return of international cricket in Pakistan after 10 years. Captain Sarfaraz stated
“We just cannot wait for the series to begin because only a few of us have played in ODI matches before the home crowd. My last such game here was in 2008 during the Asia Cup and Wahab Riaz is the only other player to have played an ODI in Karachi,”
He told the pre-series media conference at the National Stadium on Thursday. “For me it would be a moment of great excitement to be leading Pakistan for the first time in a One-day International in front of [my] hometown supporters. This will definitely be a very proud moment of my career.
